GUWAHATI: NASA astronaut Don Pettit shared extraordinary images of the 2025 Maha Kumbh Mela from the International Space Station (ISS) on Monday, January 27, offering a unique aerial perspective of Prayagraj, where millions of people have gathered for the spiritual event. The photos vividly capture the radiant lights and expansive crowd at the Maha Kumbh Mela.

Pettit described the scene as “the largest human gathering in the world” from space. The photographs, posted on X, capture the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and the mythical Saraswati rivers, illuminated by the lights of the gathering.

The 2025 Maha Kumbh Mela, which began on January 13 and runs until February 26, attracts millions of devotees, saints, and tourists.
Pettit (69) is NASA's oldest active astronaut and renowned for his astrophotography and contributions to space exploration.
