GUWAHATI: In a joint operation, Meghalaya Police collaborated with Meghashakti Women Police Commandos to carry out a successful "vice raid" in and around the Khyndai Lad (Police Bazaar) area during the weekend.

As a result, 15 illegal sex workers were apprehended, and a significant quantity of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) was seized.

The operation was conducted under the ambit of the Immoral Trafficking Prevention Act, and Sylvester Nongtnger, the District Police Chief of East Khasi Hills, confirmed to the media that further legal action would be taken against those arrested.

The Police Chief stressed that soliciting customers is not only illegal but also often leads to law and order problems.

To curb such activities, the police intensified "foot patrolling" over the weekend in the areas surrounding Police Bazaar.

Vice raids were conducted in various locations within the city, with the support of Women Police Commandos. During the operation, a total of 1,12,097 ml of IMFL and 7,74,000 ml of illicit liquor were confiscated.
