GUWAHATI: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that an additional 13,000 households will be incorporated into the city's water supply scheme, effective January 1. The North Guwahati unit is also slated to commence operations in February. This expansion is poised to increase the operational piped water supply connections to cover approximately 60 per cent of Guwahati.
Commencing the endeavour, CM Sarma declared, "From today, we will start the work of giving 13,000 new water connections to the Guwahati Water Supply Project. For this, we will start 15 DMAs, 15 district metering zones from today.”
“With this, the water coverage of Guwahati will reach 60 per cent and we will be able to provide 13000 connections in several important areas of Guwahati. In parallel, we hope to open the DMA in North Guwahati in February. I am sure that we will see the good results of the measures that we are taking very soon and this will make Guwahati city a truly gateway to South East Asia,” Sarma further added.
