GUWAHATI: Approval of the guidelines for the implementation of Mukhya Mantri Awaas Yojana - Gramin (MMAY-G) was granted to address housing needs and uplift rural communities by the Assam Government, during its Cabinet Meeting on December 21.
MMAY-G, a housing initiative, aims to provide houses to 1,30,000 eligible beneficiaries in the fiscal year 2023-24, with assistance equivalent to that of PMAY. Additionally, 13,000 houses will be constructed in the Tea Garden labour lines, addressing specific housing needs in these areas.
The selection process for beneficiaries will prioritize the 10% poorest of the poor from the AwaasSoft waiting list, ensuring that those in the greatest need receive housing assistance under MMAY-G.
The framework of Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana - Gramin (PMAY-G) will be followed in the implementation of MMAY-G, outlining key parameters for the housing initiative.
The approved guidelines outline several crucial aspects of MMAY-G implementation:
a) Unit Cost and Disbursement: The unit cost for a house is set at ₹7,30,000, to be disbursed through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) in three installments.
b) MGNREGA Wage: Beneficiaries will receive MGNREGA wage at the current rate for generating 95 man-days, facilitating community participation and employment generation.
c) Minimum House Size: The minimum size of a house under MMAY-G will be 25 square meters, ensuring adequate living space for beneficiaries.
d) AwaasSoft Integration: AwaasSoft, the existing Management Information System (MIS) for PMAY-G, will be utilised for both physical and financial implementation, streamlining the monitoring and evaluation process.
