GUWAHATI: A 10-year-old girl was rescued from child labour in the Japorigog area of Guwahati on Wednesday, April 9. The operation was conducted by the District Child Protection Unit (DCPU) of Guwahati in coordination with the district administration.

The child was reportedly employed as a domestic worker at the residence of one Ali Asgar Khan. Officials stated that the employment of the minor violated existing laws prohibiting child labour. Upon receiving information, the DCPU acted promptly and ensured the immediate rescue and safety of the girl, according to a press release.
Following the rescue, an official First Information Report (FIR) was filed at Dispur Police Station against Khan under applicable sections of child labour and exploitation laws. Authorities confirmed that a detailed investigation has been initiated and further legal action will be taken based on its findings.
Officials have urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspected cases of child labour or abuse to the nearest authorities. Reports of such incidents can also be made through the Child Helpline number 1098, which remains active 24x7 for cases involving vulnerable children.
