GUWAHATI: Dhanteras, which marks the first day of the festival of Diwali, is right around the corner. Being celebrated on October 25 this year, it is considered an extremely auspicious day to make new purchases, especially of gold, silver articles and new utensils.

With the city undergoing an economic slump, G Plus reached out to Subhash Soni, Director, Manik Chand Nand Kishore Jewellers, to find out about the expected sale of gold this year during the auspicious festival.

“In terms of sale, we are targeting at least 25 percent better growth as compared to last year. We are definitely expecting to achieve our target. Most of our customers are inclining towards diamond jewelry along with gold jewelry,” explained the director.

When speaking of the price of gold, he explained that the price of gold is slightly higher as compared to last year.

“The price for 22k gold is ₹ 37500 for 10gms of gold or 1 tola (per dhanteras rates), which isn’t stable, and may rise a bit on the day of Dhanteras,” he added.

Further, Soni said that footfall has definitely increased this year, in addition to their sale volumes as compared to last year.

“Demand has increased in terms of quantity and not per article value,” he said.

During Dhanteras, it is believed that new dhan (wealth) or some form of metal is a sign of good luck. During present times especially, this occasion is known as the most auspicious to buy gold, silver and other metals.

It should be noted that appliances and automobiles are also heavily purchased on this day.
