Young Woman Gang-Raped in Hajo, 5 People Arrested

 

GUWAHATI: A woman was allegedly gangraped by a group of nine men in Assam's Hajo town. The incident took place in the Tapabari char area on Thursday.

The prime accused has been identified as Altaf, a taxi driver. Altaf, along with his eight friends, allegedly raped her on the pretext of offering her job at a company.

The victim, who hails from Dhemaji, had reportedly filed a complaint with the police that she was gangraped by nine men in a car.

As per her complaint, the prime accused lured her in a car after he promised her a job. After the woman got into the car, she was raped by nine men. 

Hajo police have arrested five accused in connection with the case - Abdul Hamid, Imran Hussain, Abdul Jalil, Afazuddin, and Saidul Rahman. However, the main suspect, Altaf, is still at large

The victim's family told police that the "heinous crime has shattered" them.

Police said they are further probing the case. The accused will face harsh punishment for the crime, police said.
