Phogat stunned world No. 1 and defending champion Yui Susaki of Japan in the Round of 16, before edging out Ukraine's Oksana Livach in the quarterfinals. She will face Cuba's Yusneylys Guzman Lopez for a place in the final.
In the match against Japan's Yui Susaki, the reigning gold medalist and four-time world champion, Vinesh Phogat displayed remarkable resilience.
Initially trailing 0-2 due to penalty points for passivity, Phogat staged a dramatic comeback in the final five seconds, securing a takedown and earning three points to claim victory with a score of 3-2. This significant achievement places Phogat tantalisingly close to a medal that she was unable to secure in her two earlier Olympic appearances.
