Assam BJP Mahila Morcha General Secretary Ratna Singh downplays opponent's strength in upcoming elections, focuses on party's preparedness
1. What kind of response are you expecting from women voters in Guwahati?
Women voters are very excited to vote in Guwahati this time, especially the new voters. Moreover, the beneficiaries are very happy and at the same time, women voters whom they have not received for the last 70 years have now received a positive response from the Modi government in which women are empowered.
2. Are women in Guwahati excited about upcoming elections? Do you think they should play a greater role?
Women in Guwahati are excited about upcoming elections and they will play a greater role because women have received a lot of benefits from the government. Women's segment of society was previously ignored by other governments, especially the Congress government. Now they have received a positive response from the BJP Government led by Narendra Modi. In Assam, the development was led by Himanta Biswa Sarma.

3. Do you think women are voting more? Do you think women should vote in the electoral process?
The voting patterns between women and men are equal. Women are more interested in voting nowadays. I think women should participate in the electoral process because, after the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam, 33% are reserved for women. I think women must be interested in taking part in the electoral process because tomorrow if you want to portray women and put women into Vidhan Sabha or in parliament elections, then we need to prepare this leadership from very basic and local stages.
4. How much do you think the Lakhpati Baideo scheme will help women?
The Lakhpati Baideo scheme will help women because women's self-help groups have made great achievements from the schemes. Women have become more ‘atmanirbhar’ which is the main agenda of Narendra Modi for women's development and empowerment. Women who were previously confined to their homes are now looking forward to sitting in their homes and saving money from the government for their business and entrepreneurship any developing good business. In that way, they are receiving income by which they are looking after their families and looking after themselves. And with the Lakhpati Baideo scheme, a lot of benefits have been received from the women.

5. What measures are taken by the BJP for women's safety? To what extent do you think it has been successful?
Lots of measures have been taken by the BJP Government for women's safety. The helpline numbers are working and they are functioning 24 hours. And at the same time, police have become women-friendly and special initiatives have been taken in the police stations for women with children. Earlier, FIRs were lately registered, and police were late in addressing the problems of women but now the women's police stations have been built and other police stations are very appealing and you can say very positive and comfortable responses are given to women who come to report with the police and police registers the cases very fast and actions are taken.
6. Mira Borthakur is a strong candidate, what is the BJP's strategy for defeating her?
I don't think Mira Borthakur is a strong candidate. She is simply a candidate. And I think as per democracy she will do her campaigning. But as for us, we are doing for BJP and working hard. We don't see or think for a candidate whether she's strong or weak. We don't think about that. We only think about what work we have to do and not from today but from many days, we have been preparing for the elections. India is a democratic country that is run by electoral process so we are always prepared for the elections. And it's not just during the elections they will just jump into the work and will do their utmost. But during the elections, we gain a lot of momentum and always in the momentum and election spirit.
