GUWAHATI: A herd of wild elephants caused damage to residential property in Chirang, Assam, on the night of Monday, November 11. Wrecking the house of one particular individual, the elephants devoured stored rice, vegetables, flour, and other edibles, leaving a trail of rubble in their wake.

As per reports, this incident occurred near the India-Bhutan border. The involved individual and his family managed to escape without injuries during the time of the attack, while the elephants tore through the area in search of food.
Officials from the Bishnupur forest division were quick to respond to the chaos, visiting the site to assess the damage caused by the herd.
The attack also highlights a recent worrying trend, as wild elephants, likely from the Manas National Park, are venturing into villages at night primarily in search of food, but ultimately causing substantial damage to property and crops.
Meanwhile, the forest department continues to monitor the situation for the time being, and is reportedly exploring potential measures to manage human-elephant conflicts for the foreseeable future.
