This relentless downpour began late last week and have triggered widespread destruction across the country, leaving thousands displaced and critical infrastructure damaged.

Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak urged disaster management authorities to be on high alert. "I have directed the chief district officers of Koshi and Bagmati provinces, along with all security agency chiefs, to remain vigilant in disaster-prone areas," Lekhak reportedly said in a statement. He also warned travellers to exercise caution due to the hazardous conditions of major roads and highways impacted by the rain-triggered disasters.

Weather forecasts predict heavy rainfall to continue through Wednesday and Thursday in these areas, as well as in the densely populated Kathmandu Valley. The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has flagged the areas as particularly vulnerable to further flooding and landslides.

The flooding and landslides, which have mostly affected eastern and central Nepal, began on Friday, September 27, and have caused significant displacement and infrastructure damage, with large areas remaining inundated as heavy rains persist.

So far, over 13,000 people have been rescued from affected regions, according to Home Ministry spokesperson Rishiram Tiwari. More than 20,000 security personnel, including teams from the Nepal Army, Armed Police Force, and Nepal Police, have been deployed to conduct search and rescue operations and provide emergency relief.

Authorities have urged residents in vulnerable areas to remain alert and take precautions against the continuing threat.
