The conflict began when Hemanga Das, a student, allegedly rammed his scooter into a shopkeeper named Vinod Kumar Purbe. In retaliation, Purbe slapped the former, leading to a verbal dispute between the two. Witnesses stated that the situation became tense shortly after the initial confrontation.

Following the dispute, Vinod Kumar Purbe’s sons, Manish Kumar Purbe and Anish Kumar Purbe, joined in and physically assaulted Hemanga. In response, Hemanga Das left the scene and later returned with a group of youths, who attacked the three shopkeepers.

Both sides sustained injuries in the altercation and were admitted to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) for treatment. Officials confirmed that FIRs were filed by both parties at the Dispur Police Station.

“The claim that only the student was attacked is not accurate,” a senior official said. “Both parties are at fault as they aggravated the situation through mutual provocation and violence.”

Further investigation into the case is ongoing.
