Vehicle Theft Cases Surge In Guwahati, Multiple Arrested In Police Crackdown

GUWAHATI: Guwahati has witnessed a spike in vehicle thefts, with city police successfully recovering multiple stolen vehicles and arresting several suspects in separate operations. Swift action by different police teams on Thursday, February 27 alone led to the recovery of a small truck, an E-rickshaw, a motorcycle, and a commuter van within hours of their theft reports.

In one incident, a City Guwahati Police Department (CGPD) team from Noonmati Police Station acted swiftly upon receiving a report of a small truck (AS01FC7342) being stolen. Following a quick investigation, the vehicle was found within 24 hours near RBI, Pan Bazar.

Another CGPD team retrieved an E-rickshaw (AS01ER6436) from VIP Road, Patharquary, which had been parked unattended for over 10 days. Upon investigation, it was found to have been stolen from Hatigaon.

In a third case, a West Guwahati Police Department (WGPD) team from Jalukbari Police Station recovered a stolen motorcycle (AS01EA5891) within 24 hours. Two individuals, Mithun Mandal and Dipak Mandal, were arrested, and legal action has been initiated against them.

Additionally, another WGPD team from the Jalukbari Police Station recovered a commuter van from Sipajhar after it was stolen from the Adabari parking lot. A suspect, Dhanmoni Hazarika of Mangaldoi, was arrested in connection with the case.

Guwahati Police have assured that due diligence is ongoing in all cases as they continue efforts to curb vehicle thefts across the city.
