Uttarakhand Police To Launch Investigation Following Almora Bus Tragedy

 

GUWAHATI: Uttarakhand Police are set to launch an investigation on the tragic bus accident that took place on Monday, November 4, which claimed 36 lives and injured 26 others.

Uttarakhand Director General of Police (DGP) Abhinav Kumar told reporters that the police are taking strict action to determine the cause of the accident. Road safety measures will be assessed, and the police will also investigate all road accidents which took place in the state in the past three years.

The bus, operated by the Garhwal Motor Owners Union, was carrying over 60 passengers, even though its initial seating capacity was 43. It was travelling from Pauri in the Garhwal region to Ramnagar in Kumaon, approximately 250 kilometres away.

In addition to the fatalities, 26 people sustained injuries, with four in critical condition. The wounded were rushed to nearby hospitals, where medical teams have been working to stabilise them. Among those fatally wounded, ten were women.

In the aftermath of the incident, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed his condolences to the victims’ families and announced a compensation of ₹4 lakh for the next of kin of those who lost their lives, along with ₹1 lakh in assistance for the injured.
