The post was uploaded on Friday, May 2, and it came days after he jokingly expressed his desire to become the supreme leader of Vatican City.
While some took this as an act of humour, others were quite critical of his action, stating it as an act of disrespect to the Late Pope Francis and the Catholic community. Some people within the community also accused Trump of narcissism and being an extremely disrespectful individual.
Some other people showed their concerns online over the immature and impractical act by the US President, since as a leader of a diverse nation, the violation of any religion is an act of crime.
"Donald Trump Made Himself Pope with Artificial Intelligence,” posted one user. “I swear this guy is crazy."
"Donald Trump has gone insane," added another.
"Donald Trump's advisor team did not give correct advice; he dressed up as the Pope,” said a third user. “Do you think this is a proper look for the USA President? I think this is an abuse of the Catholic religion."
Notably, this action brought amusement in the face of South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham, who took to social media to sarcastically vouch for Trump as the next Pope.
Pope Francis passed away last month at the age of 88, suffering a stroke and heart failure, according to the Vatican’s official death certificate. The conclave to elect his successor will begin on May 7, as the Church enters the final preparatory phase for choosing its 267th Pope.
