GUWAHATI: Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has announced assistance to Assam for flood management programme.
Presenting the Union Budget for 2024-25 in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday, July 23, she said, “Assam grapples with floods every year by the Brahmaputra River and its tributaries, originating outside India. We will provide assistance to Assam for flood management and related projects.”

She also announced similar assistance to Uttarakhand and Sikkim.
However, the minister did not quantify the assistance while she proposed ₹11,500cr for the flood mitigation programme in Bihar.
The flood situation in Assam has improved, but over a lakh people remain affected in 10 districts.
A central team, comprising top officials from various ministries, have visited the state to assess the damage caused by two waves of floods this year.
The affected districts are Kamrup, Morigaon, Dibrugarh, Sivasagar, Golaghat, Nagaon, Dhemaji, Goalpara, Kamrup Metropolitan and Cachar.
