Guwahatians often struggle for hours to find a parking space in downtown business districts. Every vehicle owner finds parking a time-consuming headache. But, the question remains: Are the parking spaces safe for cars?
The GPlus team tried to examine the concerns and potential risks associated with parking facilities in Guwahati. The finding is truly scary, making it essential to the need for an increased focus on safety measures.
Commuters across Guwahati often find themselves spending precious hours navigating through crowded streets in search of a suitable parking spot for their vehicles. The city's burgeoning population and the corresponding surge in vehicular traffic have amplified the struggle to secure parking, turning it into a daily ordeal for many.
Beyond the immediate frustrations of locating a parking space, there arises a more significant concern – the safety of the parked vehicles. GPlus conducted an in-depth investigation to understand the extent of the issues plaguing near Judge's Field.
Feedback from various sources, including commuters and parking attendants, revealed a spectrum of issues plaguing the safety standards of this parking space.
However, the underground parking facility near Judge's Field in Guwahati has come under scrutiny due to its deplorable condition, raising concerns about both safety and cleanliness.
Talking to GPlus, a student from Cotton University seeking anonymity stated, "The parking exudes an unpleasant smell, making the experience extremely discomforting. Additionally, resembling a subway, the facility's deplorable condition renders it practically unusable."
The student's testimony unveils the alarming condition of the parking space, underscoring its failure to meet fundamental cleanliness benchmarks and its impracticality for daily use.
Another daily commuter added, "It's really risky to go through the subway without lights. It makes me feel unsafe, especially in the evenings." The lack of proper lighting not only puts pedestrians in danger but also makes the overall atmosphere more insecure, particularly during the evenings.
Talking to GPlus, a car attendant at the parking facility stated, "The state of this parking facility is alarming, with unpleasant odours, blocked water, and clogged gutters." The unsanitary conditions not only make it an unpleasant environment for those using the facility but also underscore a lapse in maintenance and cleanliness protocols.
Expressing safety concerns, a Guwahati resident, who was there to watch a football match at the Judge's Field recounted a frightening experience: "On December 12, while returning from a football match, my friends and I parked our car in the space. Due to the absence of lights, I nearly tripped. This poses a danger." This incident highlights the need to address safety concerns in the underground parking area.
When contacted, a senior official from Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) stated, "We have decided to revamp this parking lot. Once we get approval from the government, we will start our work."
Hence, the quest for a parking space should not compromise the security of citizens' vehicles, and it is imperative to create an urban landscape where both convenience and safety coexist seamlessly for the benefit of all.
