The accident, involving two trains operated by power company NTPC, took place around 3 a.m. near Bhognadih in the Barhait police station area. The tracks where the collision occurred are also owned by NTPC and are primarily used for coal transportation to its power plants.
"The drivers of both trains died in the head-on crash," said Kishore Tirkey, Sub-Divisional Police Officer of Sahebganj.
Eastern Railway spokesperson Kausik Mitra clarified that the incident did not involve Indian Railways, stating, "Both the goods trains and the track belong to NTPC."
The affected railway line serves as a crucial connection between NTPC’s Kahalgaon Super Thermal Power Station in Bihar’s Bhagalpur district and the Farakka Power Plant in West Bengal’s Murshidabad district.
