Trinamool Congress Unveils Manifesto, Vows To Repeal CAA And NRC

 

GUWAHATI: The West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress (TMC), has officially released its manifesto for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls, outlining a series of promises aimed at ushering in a "dignified life for all" by overthrowing what it terms as "BJP Zamindars," according to media reports.

At the manifesto launch event, the TMC emphasised its commitment to repealing the contentious Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) and halting the implementation of the National Register of Citizens (NRC). The party asserted its stance against what it perceives as discriminatory policies and practices, aiming to ensure the rights and dignity of all citizens.

Earlier in the day, Mamata Banerjee, addressing an election rally, accused the BJP of transforming the entire country into a "detention camp." She reiterated the promise to revoke the CAA and NRC if the opposition bloc INDIA secures power at the Centre.

The manifesto also laid out several welfare schemes proposed by the TMC, should the INDIA bloc emerge victorious in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. These include initiatives such as ration delivery at the doorstep and the provision of 10 free cooking cylinders annually for below-poverty-line (BPL) families, among others.

Key highlights from the TMC's manifesto for the Lok Sabha polls 2024, apart from the commitment to repealing the CAA, include:

•    One-year apprenticeships with a monthly stipend for all graduates and diploma holders up to 25 years.
•    Provision of student credit cards of up to ₹10 lakh for higher education.
•    Tripling the number of higher education scholarships for SCs, STs, and OBCs students.
•    Increase in the current old age pension to ₹1,000 per month for individuals aged 60 and above.
•    Capping the cost of petrol, diesel, and LPG cylinders to ensure affordability.
•    Establishment of a 'price stabilisation fund' to manage fluctuations in prices.
•    Legally guaranteeing MSP for farmers as per the Swaminathan Commission's recommendations.
•    Providing 5 kg of free ration per month to every ration card holder, with doorstep delivery.
•    Distribution of 10 free LPG cylinders per year to every BPL family.
•    Ensuring 100 days of guaranteed work and a minimum wage of ₹400 per day for all job card holders.
•    Assuring dignified housing for every poor family across the country, ensuring safe and secure homes for all.
