GUWAHATI: As allegations and counter-allegations continue over the Bharat Ratna to Bhupen Hazarika, Congress veteran and three-time chief minister Tarun Gogoi has questioned why singer Zubeen Garg was not given a Padma Shri.
Speaking to reporters on various issues here in Guwahati, the Congress leader questioned, “Tell me why Zubeen has not been given the Padma Shri? Is he not eligible? From Assam, I would say Zubeen is eligible.”

Also, the former chief minister said that had Bhupen Hazarika been alive he would not have got Bharat Ratna as he would be against the bill.
“Zubeen has been opposing the bill and had Bhupen Hazarika been alive, he would have protested, too. Then he would not have got this award,” said Tarun Gogoi.
