STF Disposes Of 37,000 Bottles Of Contraband Narcotics Substances In Guwahati

GUWAHATI: The Special Task Force (STF) in Assam successfully disposed of 37,000 bottles of contraband narcotic substances in Panikhaiti, Guwahati, on Tuesday, December 3. The operation was led by Sudhakar Singh, APS, SP (Zone-I), CID, Assam, and included representatives from the District Magistrate, the Joint Director of Health, and the Narcotics Control Bureau.

The seized substances were 37,000 bottles of Phensedyl cough syrup, each containing 100ml, amounting to a total of 3,700 litres. The estimated market value of the contraband is ₹70 lakh.

Under the leadership of IGP Partha Sarathi Mahanta, IPS, the STF has been actively targeting narcotic drug dealers across the state. Since March 2023, the force has conducted 164 operations, resulting in the arrest of 325 individuals involved in the illegal drug trade and the recovery of large quantities of heroin, opium, ganja, cough syrups, and various contraband tablets and capsules, valued at an estimated ₹800 crore.

The disposal marked the second such operation this year, with a third drug disposal expected soon. This will involve the disposal of 3.06 kg of heroin, 37.26 kg of opium, 3,873 kg of ganja, and 80,400 contraband tablets and capsules, pending a Court Order.

The first drug disposal operation took place on March 16, involving a substantial quantity of NDPS items seized from 10 registered cases under STF PS.
