Shootout At Goalpara Leaves Dacoits And Police Personnel Injured

GUWAHATI: The police clashed with a dangerous gang of armed dacoits, leading to the elimination of two gang members in Goalpara on Monday.

The incident occurred in Nichinta village near Agia in the Goalpara district, where police officials were met with gunfire while attempting to apprehend the criminal group.

The operation, based on specific intelligence, was executed under the guidance of Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Rituraj Doley, with the aim of capturing the feared dacoit gang responsible for a series of criminal activities in the region as confirmed by officials from the Goalpara Police to GPlus.

As the police team closed in on the dacoits, they were met with resistance in the form of gunfire from the opposite side. The officers had no choice but to respond with retaliatory fire, the official from the Goalpara Police stated.

In the exchange, two members of the dacoit gang were fatally wounded and succumbed to their injuries at the scene.

Unfortunately, in the line of duty, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Agia Police Station, Manoj Kumar Das, sustained gunshot wounds and is currently receiving medical treatment.

The authorities have identified one of the neutralised dacoits as Amar Thapa, while the identity of the other gang member is still pending verification.

In addition to the successful neutralisation of the dacoits, officials have seized a vehicle belonging to the gang that was found at the site of the firefight. The vehicle is expected to provide crucial evidence in the ongoing investigation into the criminal activities of the gang.

Further information regarding the incident, including the condition of the injured OC and the identities of the dacoits, is anticipated as the investigation progresses.
