Official statistics from the latest National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) report revealed a concerning trend in Assam – crimes against children have surged by 22 per cent over the past four years.
As of October 31, 2023, Assam has witnessed an unsettling surge in crimes against children, reaching a staggering 6171 cases. The figure includes an alarming 5370 child marriage cases.
Data compiled by the State Crime Records Bureau (SCRB) reveals a disconcerting trend, reflecting a notable increase compared to the previous years. In 2020, there were 4622 reported cases of crimes against children, followed by a rise to 5282 cases in 2021.
Despite a slight decrease in 2022, with 4084 cases, the numbers have skyrocketed in 2023, reaching an alarming high.
