Shankar Mahadevan And Zakir Hussain Win Grammy For 'This Moment' Album

 

Indian musicians Shankar Mahadevan and Zakir Hussain’s fusion band Shakti won the Grammy award for their ‘This Moment’ album in the ‘Best Global Music Album’ category in the annual Grammy awards, held at Los Angeles last night on February 4. 

‘This Moments’ released last year on June 23, and was the first album by Shakti since they reformed in 2020. The band consists of John McLaughlin, Shankar Mahadevan and Ustad Zakir Hussain, who won two more Grammys for Best Global Music Performance and Best Contemporary Instrumental Album becoming the first Indian to win three Grammy awards in one night. 

Indian music composer and three time Grammy winner Ricky Kej congratulated the winners on X where he said, “SHAKTI wins a #GRAMMYs #GRAMMYs2024 !!! Through this album 4 brilliant Indian musicians win Grammys!! Just amazing. India is shining in every direction. Shankar Mahadevan, Selvaganesh Vinayakram, Ganesh Rajagopalan, Ustad Zakhir Hussain. Ustad Zakhir Hussain won a second Grammy along with virtuoso flute player Rakesh Chaurasia. Brilliant!!!!.”
