GUWAHATI: The Government of India’s Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, through the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan), has announced the availability of scholarships for students with disabilities in their educational pursuits for the 2024-25 academic year. The schemes include Pre-Matric, Post-Matric, and Top Class Education Scholarships.

Students can apply online via the National Scholarship Portal at www.scholarships.gov.in or through the mobile app of the portal. The application link is also accessible on the department’s official website, www.depwd.gov.in. Comprehensive details about the schemes, including eligibility criteria and application instructions, are available on the website.
To be eligible, applicants must have a benchmark disability of at least 40% and possess a Unique Disability Identity (UDID) or a UDID enrolment number along with a disability certificate.
The online application timeline is as follows:
- Pre-Matric Scholarship applications open on 30th June 2024 and close on 15th October 2024.
- Post-Matric and Top Class Education Scholarship applications are open from 30th June 2024 to 31st October 2024.
Scholarship slots are available for both new applicants and renewal. However, fresh applicants will be considered only for the remaining slots after all renewals are processed.
Meeting the eligibility criteria alone does not guarantee a scholarship, as there is a fixed number of slots available each year. Additionally, 50% of the slots are reserved for female candidates.
Assam’s Education Minister Ranoj Pegu took to the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to announce the scholarship.
“The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan), GOI, invites online applications for the Pre-Matric, Post-Matric, and Top Class Education Scholarship Schemes for Students with Disabilities (Divyangjan) for the academic year 2024-25.”
