Sanjay Raut Claims Modi To Retire In September, Successor To Be From Maharashtra

GUWAHATI: Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut on Monday, March 31, claimed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will retire on September, and his successor would be from Maharashtra. Raut also added that the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) would decide on the matter.

Responding to the claims, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis dismissed the statement, asserting that Modi would continue as prime minister beyond 2029.

According to reports, Raut suggested at a press conference that Modi’s recent visit to the RSS headquarters in Nagpur indicated his intent to retire, referring to the practice of leaders stepping down at 75. "Modi's successor will be from Maharashtra, and RSS will decide on that," he reportedly said.

Modi, who turns 75 in September, visited the Smruti Mandir in Reshimbagh on Sunday, where he was accompanied by RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, and Fadnavis.

However, Fadnavis stated in Nagpur that there was “no need to search” for Modi’s successor, as he would remain the leader. He added that discussing succession while the leader is active is inappropriate and likened it to "Mughal culture."

“There is no need to search for his successor,” Fadnavis asserted. “He (Modi) is our leader and will continue.”

Meanwhile, senior RSS leader Suresh ‘Bhaiyyaji’ Joshi, who was also in Nagpur, reportedly said he was unaware of any discussions regarding Modi’s replacement.
