This was stated in the Time Use Survey (TUS) recently released by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI). The survey also found that over the last five years, females have narrowed the gap with men in learning activities, as men spent less time on education-related activities than before.

Relatedly, in urban areas, people spent 87 minutes per day on learning activities in 2024, down from 95 minutes in 2019. Similarly, in rural areas, the time dropped from 92 minutes in 2019 to 90 minutes in 2024.

A gender-wise analysis additionally revealed that women’s learning time remained unchanged at 84 minutes per day, while men’s learning time declined significantly from 102 minutes in 2019 to 94 minutes in 2024.

Notably, the study also highlighted an increase in time spent on employment and related activities in both urban and rural areas. Students in urban areas dedicated 199 minutes per day to employment-related activities in 2024, compared to 188 minutes in 2019. In rural areas, this figure increased from 153 minutes in 2019 to 171 minutes in 2024.
