₹45,000 Penalty Imposed On Guwahati Resident For Discharging Toilet Waste Into Basistha River

GUWAHATI: The Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) has fined a resident of Natun Bazar ₹45,000 for unlawfully discharging septic waste into the Basistha River, on Wednesday, December 4.

GMC took to X and said, “ Discharge of toilet wastes into the Basistha River is a highly punishable offence. GMC imposed a penalty of ₹45,000 on a resident of Natun Bazar for dumping septic wastes into the river. Protecting the Basistha River from pollution is paramount, and GMC will take stern action against any such violations. Our Guwahati, Our responsibility! Earlier on December 3, GMC officials also fined two residents from Machkhowa and GMCH Road for creating unhygienic conditions in their localities and improper waste disposal.

The GMC stressed the importance of collective responsibility in maintaining the city’s cleanliness by following waste management and hygiene guidelines to prevent further violations.
