GUWAHATI: Illegal parking on Guwahati’s streets, particularly in the Beltola, Wireless and Survey areas, has become a recurring nuisance, causing frequent traffic chaos. Vehicle owners blatantly park in the middle of the road, turning public pathways into their private lots, while authorities appear indifferent to the issue.

The stretch from Last Gate to Beltola Tiniali, which falls under the jurisdictions of Dispur and Hatigaon Police Stations, is particularly problematic. The right side of the stretch comes under the Hatigaon Police’s watch, but no concrete measures have been implemented to curb the menace.

When approached by GPlus, an official from Hatigaon Police Station stated, “As of now, no formal complaint has been forwarded. But now that it has come to notice, we will look into the matter.”

Residents and commuters, however, remain sceptical, expressing frustration over the lack of strict enforcement against violators. Until decisive action is taken, the city’s roads may continue to serve as unregulated parking spaces.
