Shubman Gill, after winning the toss, opted to bat first against Zimbabwe at Harare Sports Club.

What came as a surprise to many was the young captain resting Riyan Parag, who played in the first two matches,, bringing in Sanju Samson as his replacement.

The decision followed the inclusion of T20 World Cup 2024 players Shivam Dube, Sanju Samson, and Yashasvi Jaiswal in the squad. Gill made four significant changes to the playing XI, resting Sai Sudharsan, Dhruv Jurel, and Mukesh Kumar besides Riyan Parag,

The decision raised eyebrows among many considering India’s dominant performance in the 2nd T20I, where they won by a margin of 100 runs. Riyan Parag, who made his international debut in this series, managed only 2 runs in the first match, but was not required to bat in the second.
