On the occasion of the 1st death anniversary of noted economist Prof Dilip Kumar Barua, a memorial lecture was organized by North East Debaters Association in collaboration with the Students Union of Cotton University. The lecture was held on April 27, Friday at Sudmersen Hall of Cotton University.
The memorial lecture was on the topic "Debate, Democracy and Development", delivered by noted educationist and ex- Vice Chancellor of Gauhati University Dr. Amarjyoti Choudhury.
Dr Choudhury in his speech emphasized on the need to create a strong debating culture which is based on logic rather than quarrel. Further, he relived his moments spent with late Prof Dilip Kumar Barua and shared them through his speech.
The lecture programme was inaugurated by Dr. Bhabesh Chandra Goswami, Vice Chancellor of Cotton University. The memorial lecture witnessed the presence of a great number of distinguished guests including family members of Late Prof Dilip Kumar Barua.
Speaking on the occasion, Dipak Sarma, president of North East Debaters Association said that the organization will try to organize the memorial lecture every year. The programme also saw the participation of students and teachers of different schools and colleges.
