GUWAHATI: In a bid to curb the instances of ragging in the various educational institutes of the country, the University Grants Commission (UGC) released a new set of regulations on their official website on Monday, January 8, outlining strict new rules for the higher educational institutes and councils.
As per the new rules, the principal or registrar of a college or university will be held accountable in the cases of extreme ragging and suicides and the institutes are required to constitute a committee to relook into the issue, even if police investigation is on.
The Anti Ragging Monitoring Agency has been asked to exercise more vigilance and carry out surprise checks in institutes across the nations and punitive action is to be taken if it is found that the UGC regulations are not being followed.
Furthermore, the UGC also asked all higher educational institutes to introduce a Mentor-Mentee system and directed them to provision a legal counsel for the institute’s Anti Ragging Cells and Squads.
