GUWAHATI: A police officer lost his life in a road accident in Guwahati’s Lalmati area in the early hours of Thursday, February 27, after a speeding four-wheeler ran over his scooter.

The deceased has been identified as Birinchi Kumar Das, the Officer-in-Charge of Ghograpar Police Station in Nalbari. The accident occurred at around 1:30 AM when the driver of the four-wheeler lost control of the vehicle, crashed into the road divider, and then struck Das’s scooter with immense force.
The impact was so severe that the scooter was damaged, and Das succumbed to his injuries on the spot, sources confirmed.
Meanwhile, the driver of the vehicle fled the scene immediately. Speaking to GPlus, a traffic official from Basistha Police Station said, "The incident took place at around 1:30 AM, and the driver managed to escape the scene."
Police have launched an investigation to trace the absconding driver.
