PM Economic Council's Chairman Bibek Debroy Passes Away At 69

GUWAHATI: Noted Indian economist and chairman of the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister Bibek Debroy passed away on November 1 at the age of 69.

He was undergoing treatment at AIIMS Delhi where he reportedly passed away at 7 AM today due to intestinal obstruction. 

Debroy had been serving as the chairman of the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister since September 2017. He also chaired the finance ministry’s expert committee for infrastructure classification and financing framework for Amrit Kaal.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences on his official X account and said, "Dr. Bibek Debroy Ji was a towering scholar, well-versed in diverse domains like economics, history, culture, politics, spirituality and more. Through his works, he left an indelible mark on India’s intellectual landscape. Beyond his contributions to public policy, he enjoyed working on our ancient texts, making them accessible to the youth."
