State Excise Minister Parimal Suklabaidya is contesting for Lok Sabha from Silchar as BJP candidate. Exclusively talking to GPlus, he explains why he is confident that he will win and feels he has no competitors.
You are sitting MLA since many years and a state minister since 2016. Why have you decided to contest for MP this time?
Our party is the one to decide who shall contest in what position whether it be MP, MLA or anything else. Since my party has directed me to contest as an MP, I am just following their orders.
All BJP candidates are asking for votes in the name of Modi, so where is the identity of the candidate? Why are the candidates not asking for votes for themselves?
Since, we are going to elect Modi as our Prime Minister, we are asking for votes in his favour. See, every group requires a head, a leader. And it is this leader who makes the rules and leads. We have got Modiji as our head since 10 years who, for the development of the country has been working to the bone and we are marching ahead under his supervision and guidance. It is due to this reason that we take his name.

After winning as an MP, will you ask for a Cabinet berth? And if you ask, which portfolio will you ask for?
Since the time, our party had started we have had only a single dream and that is to develop the country. And this task I can do by being an MP as well as an MLA and even as a President. That is why we do not care about the posts whether an assembly member or something else. We just want to work for ‘Ma Bharat’, through our party. We work for our nation.
Barak Valley is still not properly developed as well as people are still poor. So, what changes will you bring in future if you become the next MP?
Barak Valley is being developed but there is a lot of work yet left to be done and unfortunately, we are short of time. However, the work that has been done and is still going on is due to our Bharatiya Janta Party. So, we hope that these works will also be carried out in the near future after our party, the BJP wins.
In Silchar, many citizens are against CAA. How are you trying to woo the voters?
It has only been BJP that has been successful in wooing the people after partition, created by the Congress party among the people. It has always been BJP, that has been fighting from the start to bring the people together. Even our Home Minister, Amit Shah has announced that within 6 months everything will soon end. And, if any issues arise later, it will be dealt with effectively then.
Do you support the demand of Barak Valley as a separate state?
Never. Barak Valley is developing under the BJP led-government, we can never think of separating.
What is the scenario in Silchar? How confident are you about wining?
I am 100% confident that I am going to win.
Which candidate is more of a competition to you: Congress or TMC?
None.
