GUWAHATI: Tezpur Lok Sabha MP, Ram Prasad Sarmah has threatened to quit Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) if the ticket to contest from Tezpur constituency is offered to Assam Finance Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, the convenor of the North East Democratic Alliance.

R.P. Sarmah said that it would be a challenge for Sarma if he contests from Tezpur as today’s BJP is not like the old BJP. There are many conspiracies and secret plannings going on and that the party has been hijacked, more or less, revealed Sarmah. The old members have been deprived of their rights.

He further added that he leads a spartan life and that he has never in his life, considered himself as the MP of Tezpur. He considers himself to be ‘chowkidar’ or ‘peon’ of his people. He has always been available to his people and if the party doesn’t allow him to contest, there is no point in being with the party and he will quit.
