"Not a satisfactory Budget," says Congress

The Congress officials termed the Assam State Budget as unsatisfactory and expressed disappointment, pointing out that certain core issues remained vague and were not attended. Commenting upon the newly launched Budget, Congress Legislature Party leader, Debobrata Saikia said that the Finance Minister of the State were not clear regarding the launch of the schemes. Most of the schemes mentioned during the Budget were initiated during the Congress reign, but was not discussed in details during the Budget session. Rakibul Hussain, another Congress leader expressed that while most of the household items were highly taxed, the Government is yet to announce any step in this regard. He further rebuked that price hike and taxation has become priority of the new Government, so much that it has become a huge trouble for the common masses. He further laid emphasis upon the schemes such as laptop distribution and bicycle distribution initiated by the Congress Government under the leadership of Tarun Gogoi, and commented, “Now that the new Government is laying no importance to such schemes, the competitive environment within the State would be affected.” On the other hand, the Bharatiya Janata Party officials of the State, has welcomed the initiatives of the first State Budget as pro-people, strong and spectacular initiative to realize the clauses of the party’s Vision Document 2020.
