Nina Singh Appointed As First Woman Director General Of CISF

GUWAHATI: Nina Singh has been appointed as the Director General of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), becoming the first woman to lead this elite force. 

A 1989-batch IPS officer of the Rajasthan cadre, Singh is currently serving as the Special DG, CISF. The appointment is effective until her superannuation on July 31, 2024.

Singh, the first woman IPS officer allocated to the Rajasthan cadre, has a distinguished career with assignments across the state. Her tenure includes service as Joint Director in the CBI from 2013 to 2018, overseeing high-profile cases with national and international implications. Since 2021, she has been associated with the CISF, initially as ADG, then as Special DG, and, since August 31, 2023, as DG in-charge. A native of Bihar, Singh is an alumna of Patna Women’s College, JNU, and Harvard University. She is married to Rohit Kumar Singh, her batchmate in the IAS, currently serving as Secretary, Consumer Affairs in the Central government.

Additionally, Anish Dayal Singh, a 1988-batch IPS officer of the Manipur cadre, has been designated as the Director General of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). Singh, currently serving as DG, ITBP, will assume office from the date of joining until December 31, 2024, or until further orders, whichever is earlier. Singh is leading the committee investigating the December 13 Parliament security breach and has previously worked with the Intelligence Bureau (IB).

Rahul Rasgotra, presently a special director in the IB, will take over as the new ITBP chief, succeeding Singh. A 1989-batch IPS officer of the Manipur cadre, Rasgotra has been appointed to the post until September 30, 2025. His earlier service in Jammu and Kashmir includes instrumental contributions to reshaping the multi-agency centre (MAC) following the 26/11 Mumbai terror attack.

Vivek Srivastava, a 1989-batch IPS officer of the Gujarat cadre, has been appointed as the Director General, Fire Service, Civil Defence, and Home Guards. Currently serving as a special director in the IB, Srivastava played a crucial role in the operation leading to the arrest of Yaseen Bhatkal, a founding member of the Indian Mujahideen (IM). The appointment is effective until June 30, 2025, the date of his superannuation.
