Following the raid, three individuals with alleged links to the outfit have been arrested, including Sahanur Alam, Abu Taleb, and Zaynal Avedin. According to sources, Sahanur Islam owns a computer shop in Govindpur, Abu Talep is a native of Goalpara, and Zaynal Avedin is reportedly the imam of Majid at Milanpara is Tukde.
The coordinated searches were conducted in Assam, Jammu and Kashmir, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, and Gujarat. Suspects in these states had been actively involved in radicalising youths and inciting them to join extremist outfits, particularly the JeM-linked Jamaat.
Assam has emerged as a focal point in the investigation for the time being. The NIA had previously conducted extensive searches in the state in October, resulting in the arrest of Sheikh Sultan Salahuddin Ayubi, also known as Ayubi.
The related operation, which also spanned Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, and Jammu and Kashmir, went on to yield incriminating materials, including documents and electronic devices tied to JeM’s activities.
Thursday’s raids culminated due to evidence and intelligence obtained during Ayubi’s interrogation. The agency targeted suspects who were believed to be engaged in spreading extremist ideologies and recruiting individuals to carry out violent terrorist acts across the country.
