Acting on specific intelligence, NIA teams are concentrating their efforts on identifying and apprehending individuals suspected of aiding or affiliating with Al-Qaeda in this area. It is believed that Samaguri has emerged as a crucial node in the network, where operatives have been roaming freely to execute a conspiracy orchestrated by Bangladesh-based Al-Qaeda affiliates.
Parallel to Samaguri, the multi-state crackdown has seen NIA officials being active in Tripura as well, particularly in the Teliamura area under the Sepahijala district of Sonamura sub-division. During the subsequent raids, a suspect was also served notice to appear before the NIA in Ahmedabad by November 21.
The raids have led to the recovery of significant evidence, including digital devices, banking documents, and other materials believed to support terror funding.
This ongoing crackdown by the NIA is part of a bigger operation, as they have orchestrated raids to deduce Al-Qaeda links across the country, covering Assam, Bihar, Jammu & Kashmir, Karnataka, Tripura, and West Bengal. The current investigation follows a previous NIA action in November 2023, when five individuals were charged for their role in procuring forged documents and promoting extremist agenda in India.
