GUWAHATI: The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has announced new regulations for FASTags, the electronic toll collection system, which will be implemented starting Thursday, August 1. These changes are designed to improve the system's efficiency and security, affecting millions of FASTag users nationwide.

The most crucial deadline under the new regulations is October 31, 2024. By this date, all FASTags issued between three and five years ago must undergo updated Know Your Customer (KYC) procedures. FASTags older than five years must be replaced entirely.

Additionally, starting August 1, all FASTags must be linked to the vehicle's registration number and chassis number. New vehicle owners must update their registration number within 90 days of purchase.

FASTag providers are now required to implement several new measures. They must verify and update their databases with accurate vehicle information, upload clear photos of the vehicle's front and side for easier identification, and ensure each FASTag is connected to a mobile number for improved communication.
These new regulations will significantly impact FASTag users, especially those with older vehicles or FASTags. Non-compliance could result in inconveniences at toll plazas and potential service suspensions. To avoid disruptions, vehicle owners are urged to act promptly.

Vehicle owners should take the following steps to ensure compliance:
1. Check the issuance date of your FASTag.
2. If your FASTag is between three and five years old, complete the KYC update before October 31.
3. Replace FASTags older than five years.
4. Ensure your FASTag is linked to your vehicle's registration and chassis numbers.
5. New vehicle owners should update their registration details within 90 days.

As the deadline approaches, FASTag service providers have been expected to reach out to customers for necessary updates. Vehicle owners have also been encouraged to meet these new requirements to ensure uninterrupted service at toll plazas.
