When planning a picnic, choosing the right food items will help to ensure a delightful outdoor experience. From snacks to beverages and vegetables to meat, here are some must-have food items for a picnic-

1. Orange and Robab Tenga (Indian Pomelo):

Taking fruits like oranges and Robab Tenga along for a picnic adds a juicy twist to the outdoor adventure. In Assam, a popular way to enjoy these fruits is by making a Pitika. Simply peel and cut the oranges and Robab Tenga into small pieces, then mash them together in a bowl. Add some chopped chilli, salt, and mustard oil and you will taste heaven.

2. Barbecue:

Grilling seasonal meat is an activity enjoyed by many where families and friends gather around portable grills, marinating the meat with ingredients like ginger-garlic paste, mustard oil, and Bhut Jolokia for some spice.

3. Mimi-Singju:

Mimi Singju is a popular Manipuri snack with a twist, where Mimi noodles are combined with shredded vegetables like cabbage, carrots, and cucumber, along with roasted chickpea powder, green chilli, coriander, boiled eggs and dry fish (optional). Everything is mixed together for a refreshing and flavourful salad mixture which is perfect for a picnic.

4. Fruit Chaat:

A refreshing medley of diced fruits like apples, mangoes, pineapples, and pomegranates mixed with spices like chaat masala to create a sweet and tangy fruit salad which can be enjoyed by all.

5. Fruit Mocktails:

Prepare these beverages by mixing different fruit juices like orange, pineapple, and cranberry, along with added slices of fresh fruits like strawberries, oranges, and kiwi. Pack them in a cooler with ice, ready to pour and enjoy.

6. Bibimbap:

Bibimbap is a Korean rice dish which can be fantastic for a picnic dish due to its versatility and ease of preparation. To enjoy it during a picnic, you can pre-cook the rice and sauté the vegetables ahead of time. Pack them separately in containers in a lunchbox, along with fried eggs and a small jar of gochujang sauce or chilli sauce.

7. S’more:

A S'more is a perfect sweet ending for a picnic. Pack crackers, marshmallows, and chocolate. Roast the marshmallows over a fire, sandwich them between the crackers, along with chocolate and enjoy the gooey, delicious treat with your friends and family.

8. Sandwiches:

Prepare a variety of fillings like cucumber and cream cheese, chicken/egg salad, cheese and tomato, or peanut butter and jelly with bread. Pack them neatly for an easy and delicious grab-and-go option during the picnic.
