GUWAHATI: West Bengal Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee sharpened her attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi led government on April 5 while rallying in minority-dominated Dhubri district.
"The people of Assam are harassed in the name of NRC. Small children are suffering in detention camps. We had come to help the people of Assam but we were misbehaved with and sent back from the airport. Names of 40 lakh people from Assam have been omitted from the draft NRC. No political party raised any voice against it. We were the first to raise it at the national level. The prime minister is misleading the people and has destroyed the country in last five years."
The Trinamool chief also accused the BJP of dividing the votes on religious lines.
Mamata Banerjee campaigned for the party’s Dhubri candidate for the ensuing Lok Sabha elections, Nurul Islam Choudhury.
