Meghalaya: 10-Year-Old Girl Ends Life After Parents Deny Her Mobile Phone

GUWAHATI: A 10-year-old girl from Thangshalai village in Mawryngkneng, East Khasi Hills District, Meghalaya, reportedly took her own life after her parents refused to give her a mobile phone.

The incident occurred on Sunday, September 22, when the girl's parents reportedly asked her to focus on her studies before buying her a new phone.

Frustrated and upset by the denial, the young girl retreated to her room, where she allegedly took her own life by hanging. Her body was discovered later that night, and she was declared dead.

According to reports, local police have confirmed the incident and handed over the body to the family following a post-mortem examination.

Earlier this month, a woman from Wakad, Maharashtra, committed suicide after her husband refused to buy her a new phone as well. Alternatively, a 16-year-old boy was stabbed to death by three juveniles in Delhi's Shakarpur area on September 23, after he refused to give them a treat them for buying a new phone.

Such heartbreaking cases have raised concerns about the mental health and emotional well-being of people, with experts urging the importance of addressing these technology-related distresses in individuals.
