MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated during a media briefing, “Former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had come to India for safety reasons; she continues to be here.”

This announcement has coincided with reports from Dhaka indicating that a Bangladeshi court has issued an arrest warrant against Hasina at the same time.

Addressing further concerns about ongoing attacks on Hindus and other minorities in Bangladesh, Jaiswal reiterated India's call for the interim Bangladeshi government to ensure the protection of minority communities.

In a related development, the spokesperson also noted that India's visa services in Bangladesh are currently limited due to the situation but will resume full operations when conditions improve.

Hasina was ousted from power in August 2024 after widespread student protests. As a result, she had to flee Bangladesh, subsequently arriving in Tripura, August 5, 2024.
