The National Institute of Technology (NIT), Silchar, and its students were affected by the storm and accompanying rain striking the hostels hard. The hostels were flooded as the high-speed wind drove the rain into the corridors and rooms. Doors and windows were damaged with parts coming unhinged and blown away.

Talking to GPlus, a student said, “The storm hit us severely. There have been damages to the hostels, as you can see in the videos. The guard wall of the Mechanical Department building has also collapsed. But, fortunately, no one has reportedly been injured. And, relief work and clearance has started already.”
Video reports also showed trees getting uprooted in the nearby areas with minimal to moderate flooding around the localities surrounding NIT.
As the damages and ruckus caused are set to clear, the students along with the people of Silchar brace for what can be a wild season of rain and thunderstorms ahead.
