Major Fire Breaks Out At Maha Kumbh In Prayagraj, No Casualties Reported

GUWAHATI: A major fire broke out along Shankaracharya Marg, engulfing several tents and causing extensive damage in Sector 18 and the surrounding areas of the Maha Kumbh campus on Friday, February 7. The cause of the blaze is still under investigation.

Fire department teams, equipped with extinguishers and fire vehicles, were immediately alerted and rushed to the scene to contain the flames. While no casualties have been reported, the fire spread rapidly to over a dozen nearby camps, resulting in losses.

Officials have stated that investigations are underway to determine the cause of the fire and assess the full extent of the damage. 

DIG (Kumbh) Vaibhav Krishna took to X, saying about the incident, stating, “This Fire incident has completely been controlled by our Fire Brigades. There is no one injured in it.”

Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely and efforts are made to secure the affected area.

This is the third fire incident at the Maha Kumbh. A massive fire had earlier broken out in Sector 19 of the Maha kumbh on Sunday, January 19, while another blaze was reported on Thursday, January 30, in numerous private tents located around six kilometres outside the main Kumbh Mela area.

Moreover, on the morning of Wednesday, January 29, a deadly stampede at the Sangam resulted in the deaths of at least 14 people and left several others injured, including one individual from Hailakandi, Assam. Just hours later, a second stampede occurred at Jhusi, approximately three kilometres from the Sangam, leading to seven more fatalities.
