The Left Democratic Mancha, Assam (LDMA), comprising 11 parties - CPI (M), CPI, CPI (ML), Janata Dal (Secular), Samajwadi Party, Nationalist Congress Party, Aam Admi Party, Asom Sangrami Mancha, Liberal Democratic Party, AIFB and RCPI, on Tuesday, took out a protest rally in the city in protest against police brutality on the people while carrying out eviction drive at Bandardubi, Deochursang, and Palkhoa in Kaziranga on Monday. Around 200 workers of the Left-Democratic Manch, Assam took out the rally from NCP office at Hedayetpur to the bank of Dighalipukhuri of the city. Addressing a press conference at NCP office here, the leadership of the Left Democratic Manch strongly condemned the ‘barbaric act’ done by the Sarbananda Sonowal led State government in the name of carrying out eviction drive at Bandardubi, Deochurchang and Palkhoa to make the Kaziranga National Park encroachment-free. Two persons including a woman were killed and 19 others, including police personnel, were injured in mob violence and subsequent police firing during the eviction drive near Kaziranga National Park on Monday. The police also demolished 332 dwelling houses of the three villages. “The police brutality on the innocent people proved that the government in Assam is turning into an atrocious ruler,” said the LDMA leadership. They further said, “The evicted people are mostly belonging to minority community and they are very poor people. The main agenda of the Sonowal government is to polarize the people and spread communal tension. The Government, therefore, is behaving frantically to destroy the age-old tradition of communal harmony and human values.”
