GUWAHATI: The reigning World Chess Champion Gukesh D and Olympian Bronze medallist Manu Bhaker have been announced as the recipients of the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award, along with Indian men’s hockey team captain Harmanpreet Singh, and para-athlete Praveen Kumar.
This was announced by the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports on January 2.
Gukesh D was crowned as the World Chess Champion on December 12, while Manu Bhaker made history at the Paris Olympics 2024 by winning two bronze medals in 10m air pistol individual event and the 10m air pistol mixed team event. Harmanpreet Singh captained the Indian hockey team to its second consecutive Olympic bronze medal, while para high-jumper Praveen Kumar, claimed the T64 title at the Paris Paralympic.
The awards will be distributed by President Draupadi Murmu in a ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan on January 17.
