Kejriwal To Continue As Delhi CM, To Run Govt From Jail: AAP

GUWAHATI: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Atishi has affirmed that Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal would not resign from his post and, if necessary, would run the government from jail.
Responding to questions about the AAP's next steps after Kejriwal's arrest, Atishi stated that they had already moved the Supreme Court against the action.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) took Kejriwal into custody on Thursday, sparking strong reactions from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and opposition leaders. Earlier, a 12-member ED team had arrived at Kejriwal’s residence, leading to allegations from the AAP that it was part of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) efforts to target the Delhi chief minister ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.

Opposition leaders also condemned Kejriwal’s arrest. Sitaram Yechury, general secretary of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), criticised the action, claiming it was an attempt by the BJP to suppress opposition voices. Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan echoed similar sentiments, condemning the arrest as an effort to stifle democracy.

Congress MP Shashi Tharoor expressed shock at Kejriwal’s arrest, linking it to what he described as a systematic effort to undermine Indian democracy during the general elections. Delhi Mayor Shelly Oberoi described the situation as a political conspiracy and emphasised the public's support for Kejriwal.

The AAP alleged a "huge conspiracy" behind Kejriwal's arrest, with party members gathering outside his residence in protest. The demonstration led to the detention of around two dozen AAP workers, including MLAs, by the Delhi Police.

As protests intensified outside Kejriwal’s residence, leaders from various political parties, including the Congress, joined the demonstration in solidarity with the AAP.
